Dear Friend of the Braxton Institute,

We give thanks for you! Your financial support for the Braxton Institute for Sustainability, Resiliency and Joy matters. I want you to know your generosity generates healing and justice.

As a people of color led organization, we are fostering physical, emotional and spiritual sanctuary for those building a more just, joyful, and sustainable world.

A Few of the Braxton Institute's Life-Changing Initiatives:

  • Dialogues on Resisting and Thriving: Since 2012, the Braxton Institute has held over 25 Dialogues on Resisting and Thriving, in person and on-line, on topics ranging from Land Justice, to Countering White Supremacy, to Healing Trauma through the Arts, and more.

  • Support for At Risk Care-Givers: Our recent Covid-19 response, Tree of Life: Black Faith Matters offered a series of public webinars followed by  Circles of Care for clinicians of color and other caregivers working in high stakes settings.  Dr. Rehema Katua writes about the powerful help provided in her recent blog post (read it here).

  • Repairing Moral Injury, Building Moral Resilience:
The Braxton Institute has reached thousands through education, research, and scholarship in moral injury and trauma-informed care, and with our partners has sponsored national and regional conferences, trainings, and symposia.  We inaugurated our model for collective healing in 2017. Watch the video report on the Princeton Conference (watch it here).

  • Transformative Justice and Racial Healing:
The Braxton Institute is supporting transformative justice in a variety of contexts including training local community organizations in restorative and religious settings, and signing HR 40, a commission to study and develop reparations proposals.

New Initiatives 2023-2024

  • Reparations for Lakeland Now!  We’ve assembled a remarkable team to build momentum for reparations for Lakeland, a historic black community harmed by the negative impacts of incorporation into College Park, MD and urban renewal.

  • Creating Sanctuary for Trans and Non-Binary POC Communities In this time of increasing threats to the safety of  Trans and Non-Binary folx, we will be convening Circles of Care to offer support beginning in the spring of 2024.  We featured this project in our 2023 Giving Tuesday Campaign (link here).

For past support, we are grateful!

In this season of giving, we invite you to make a recurring donation of $10 to $25 or more to join our community of monthly Sustainers and become a part of the Braxton Institute’s vital caring work.

Won’t you celebrate with us and invest in our life-changing programming?
