National Reparations - Elevating Public Discourse
The Braxton Institute for Sustainability, Resiliency, and Joy has prioritized Reparations education since its founding, grounded in generations of justice work. For founder Dr. Joanne M. Braxton—a fourth-generation Legacy Lakelander and descendant of Lakeland, MD founder John C. Johnson—Reparations activism is both ancestral and personal. The Institute’s trauma-informed approach addresses historical and intergenerational harm, moral injury, and the ongoing impact of systemic injustice. Across all efforts, the Braxton Institute cultivates inclusive, transformative justice rooted in history, relationship, and the pursuit of collective healing and joy.
